Dallas Cowboys News: 10 Teams Better than the Boys Right Now

The NFL is back and everyone will be talking about the league. Whether you love or hate the Dallas Cowboys they are always a team that gets plenty of attention.  After the great performance on the field last season it is only getting to get more intense this season.  Cowboy fans can be overly excited because they believe every year is the year that their team will win the Super Bowl. That is why there is optimistic Dallas Cowboys news everywhere you look. With young superstars like Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot (who is dealing with a suspension)  it is only getting worse. Unfortunately it is not the year of the Dallas Cowboys. In fact there are 10 teams better than the Cowboys right now in the NFL.

Odds Have It

Okay, so what do I mean by better than the Cowboys? I will define this by teams that will have more wins than the Cowboys by the end of the season. Top rated online sportsbook MyBookie.ag have released the NFL regular season win totals. The over/ under win total for the Cowboys is at 9.5 and there are six other teams in the league that have an equal or better expected win total. The over/under win total and predictions for the NFC East have already been posted here.

1. New England Patriots

Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, nuff said.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers

For as good as the Cowboys offense has looked of late, the Steelers look even better. With a healthy arsenal of weapons on offense, this could be the year that the Steelers finally compete with the Patriots. The projected win total for the Steelers is much higher than the Cowboys. That means that they are better than the Cowboys.

3. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons are defending NFC Champions and they have the league reigning MVP in Matt Ryan. This offense is one of the best in the league. According to Falcons Wire, heading into the final week of the regular season, Ryan had accumulated nearly 500 more yards on play action passes than any other QB. Head coach Dan Quinn has finally got the defense where he wants it to be. MLB Deion Jones is ready for a breakout season and the improvement on defense will make the Falcons better than the Cowboys.

4. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks just know how to win. They play in an easy division and they will once again make it to the playoffs in the NFC. They have one of the best coach/QB combos in the NFL. The Seahawks have a healthy defense that allowed a league low 3.4 yards-per-carry on the ground and will once again be the “Legion of Boom”.  Russell Wilson will make sure the Seahawks are better than the Cowboys.

5. Green Bay Packers

The Packers have been a thorn in the side of the Cowboys for years. As long as Aaron Rodgers is under center in Green Bay look for that trend to continue.  The projected win total for the Packers shows just how great that they will be this season. They scored on 43.8 percent of their offensive drives last season, the fourth-highest rate in the league, and for many reasons, the Packers will once again be better than the Cowboys.

6. Arizona Cardinals

Like Seattle, Arizona plays in a division that will allow them to win plenty of games this season. They also are finally healthy and will David Johnson leading the way; this team will be explosive on both sides of the ball. The Cardinals are a blitz heavy team (41% of the time) and will once again be one of the premiere teams in the NFL.

7. New York Giants

This one will really hurt for Cowboy fans. Some even think that the Eagles will be better than the Cowboys, but I am going to stick with Big Blue. The addition of Brandon Marshall on offense makes them better on that end of the field, but the vastly improved defense will be the difference maker. Keep in mind this is a defense that finished in the top three in fewest points allowed.

8. Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs don’t get the respect that they deserve as one of the best teams in the NFL. They may have a vanilla offense with Alex Smith, but coach Andy Reid always finds a way to get 10 wins year in and year out. In fact he has won 11 games in three of the past four seasons. They also boast an offensive line that allowed the fewest pressures in 2016 with 126. This consistency means that the Chiefs will finish with a better record than the Dallas Cowboys.

9. Oakland Raiders

The other team in the AFC West deserves a look as well. The Raiders locked up Derek Carr and this team has the potential to go deep into the AFC playoffs. The projected win total and latest odds show that they are the favorite to win the AFC West. They matched the Chiefs with the fewest pressures in the league and have one of the best offensive fronts in the business. Amari Cooper and Marshawn Lynch will keep this offense moving in the right direction. With Mack and Irvin powering an improving defense the Silver and Black will be better than the Cowboys.

10. New Orleans Saints

Despite finishing below .500 a year ago Drew Brees led the Saints offense to the second best scoring mark in the league. The offense also finished first in passing yards. The defense has always been a problem for the Saints but that will change this season. The Saints have built the defense via free agency and the NFL draft. Although sportsbooks have the projected win total at 8.5 (lower than the Cowboys) the Saints will still finish with a better record than the Dallas Cowboys.

BONUS TEAM: Tennessee Titans

The Titans? Yes the Tennessee Titans will be better than the Dallas Cowboys. Quarterback Marcus Mariota is back and looking as fast as ever. He is a year smarter and is making better decisions with his arm and his legs. The Titans bulked up at receiver, where veteran Eric Decker, first-round pick Corey Davis and third-round pick Taywan Taylor could fill three of the Titans’ top four spots. With Demarco Murray and Derrick Henry running the rock this could be the best Titans offense that has taken the field in years. On defense the Titans return 89.5% of their snaps among edge rushers and will pressure opposing quarterbacks once again. The Titans also ranked No. 1 overall in preventing conversions on runs in short-yardage situations. This unheralded defense along with a revamped offense will make the Titans better than the Cowboys.
