2017 Boston Red Sox Preview and Predictions
With football over it is time to look at Major League Baseball. The weather is getting warmer and all of the teams have hope of winning a World Series title. The 2017 Boston Red Sox are have all of the pieces to win it all this year, but will they?
The Red Sox are one of the best teams in the league and the baseball betting odds tend to agree. The odds to win the World Series show that the 2017 Boston Red Sox are the favorites to win the American League and the World Series.
The #1 sportsbook to bet on baseball is MyBookie.ag. They have the Red Sox at (+200) to win the American League pennant and (+300) to win the 2017 World Series. One of the reasons the Red Sox are getting so much love at the betting window is the off season pickups that this team made.
2017 Red Sox Starting Pitching
The Red Sox spent the off-season making sure that they would have the best pitching staff in baseball. The Red Sox shipped 21-year-old infielder Yoan Moncada and 20-year-old right-hander Michael Kopech, two of the most prized prospects in baseball, to the White Sox to acquire Chris Sale. Sale is a powerful lefty that is always among the top vote getters in the AL Cy Young Award talk.
He will be an incredible addition to a Red Sox starting five that includes David Price and current AL Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello. Drew Pomeranz, Steven Wright and Eduardo Rodriguez will battle for the other two staring spots to round out the rotation for the Red Sox. Rodriguez has had injury issues that could keep him out of the staring five.
2017 Red Sox Bullpen
A good starting five will not succeed without a decent bullpen. Craig Kimbrel will obviously be the closer and with a fast ball that hits 98 on average, he is as good as it gets. The Sox traded away Travis Shaw to acquire Tyler Thirnburg from the Brewers and he will slide nicely into the setup role. Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly and Robbie Ross Jr will fill out the other spots. This gives the Red Sox one of the best bullpens that they have had in a while.
2017 Red Sox lineup
The Red Sox have an intense lineup that has youth, speed and power. The team is expecting big things from the skinnier down Pablo Sandoval who could have a bounce back season. His bat will be needed to make up for the missing power that will be removed from the lineup with the retirement of David Ortiz. They did finish first in home offense and overall in the league with a +184 run differential. If they can come cloe to repeating those numbers they could be unstoppable.
2017 Red Sox Predictions
The Red Sox have plenty of talent that includes a stout lineup and a super star five man rotation. The problem is the lineup will need to provide power. Hanley Ramirez has flashes but he is often hurt. They also will have to fend off the Cleveland Indians and the Texas Rangers in the American League. They will finish first in the American league east, but then they will encounter some problems. Winning the World Series will also be difficult with the Chicago Cubs looking to repeat. The Red Sox will be in the playoffs when all is said and done, but will not be able to bring another championship to the city of Boston.
