Are the Baltimore Ravens a Team of Destiny?

No one expected the Ravens to do much of anything, but now they have the collective attention of the football world.

The Ravens odds to win the Super Bowl were the biggest of any team in the AFC; in short they were the biggest underdog in the playoffs. After a big victory against Peyton Manning, those odds have changed.

The Ravens ended the regular season limping down the stretch losing four of the last five games. This team was labeled as old and all of the focus in the AFC was on the Broncos and the Patriots as Super Bowl favorites.

Then Ray Lewis announced this would be his last season as a Raven. Motivated by the announcement, the Ravens entered the NFL playoffs with serious motivation. The Ravens answered the call in the Wildcard eliminating Andre Luck and the Indianapolis Colts in what would be the last home game for Lewis.

That victory over the Colts was not a shock to anyone and the common belief was the Broncos would end the career of Lewis and the Super Bowl aspirations of this team.

They entered the cold game against the Broncos as nine point underdogs. After allowing the opening kickoff to be returned for a touchdown it looked as though the rout was on. That didn’t deter the Ravens who responded score-for-score and matched the intensity of the Broncos.

Even with the game in jeopardy, quarterback Joe Flacco torched the usually reliable Broncos secondary with the game tying touchdown with just seconds to go in overtime.  The Ravens would dominate the overtime session and with a mix of solid defense and consistent offensive output, the Ravens would win the game.

The Ravens are going to the AFC Championship. This team seems like they are destined for a Super Bowl championship.

This team seems to be guided by an undeniable spirit that will not allow them to lose. They make believers out of the naysayers and have overcome insurmountable obstacles.

They will be underdogs in any game they play from here on out, but it would seem that is exactly how the Ravens would prefer it.
