After the Sunday night game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens, NFL fans saw something that they thought they would never see.
Bill Belichick lost his cool.
The Patriots head coach is known for his reserve demeanor and stoic attitude but after the game he ran off the field, barking at an official about the game ending field goal. In an attempt to get the attention of the official Belichick grabbed the official, who broke free from his grasp and continued to the locker room.
Since Belichick and the Patriots are such a popular team and touching an official is forbidden in the NFL, speculation started swirling that Belichick will be fined or maybe even suspended.
Online sportsbook Bovada, has released odds on whether or not the coach will feel the wrath of the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
The coach tried to explain his reaction. “So when the game was over, I went out and I was really looking for an explanation from the officials as to whether or not the play was under review. I did try to get the official’s attention as he was coming off the field to ask that, but I really wasn’t able to do that.”
Ray Anderson, the NFL executive vice president of football operations, said in a statement that the league is reviewing the incident as well as the conduct of Ravens coach John Harbaugh. The punishment from the league will come down soon and it will be interesting to see if the coach will be sidelined or fined and another victim of the replacement referees.
