After an opening week loss the Broncos rebounded with a big win that elevated them back into the top 25. Boise State moved back into The Associated Press Top 25 on Sunday after its 39-12 win over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. DJ Harper is
averaging 5.6 yards per carry and he may get plenty of action for this game, but don’t look for much change from Boise State.
Boise State has a tough time with the turnaround as admitted by their head coach.
“It changes everything,” Boise State coach Chris Petersen told the Statesman of the scheduling of this game. “Since I’ve been here, we’ve played on every night of the week and the only game that I really don’t like playing is Saturday to Thursday. It’s really hard on the kids. It’s really hard to get a great game-prep week. … Even on a normal week you’re scrambling, trying to get your best stuff in and put your best foot forward. It’s really hard when it takes two days away from you.”
Both teams have quick turnarounds so that may be a wash, but the Cougars actually have an edge in experience. The Broncos are still piecing together after losing plenty of talent on both sides of the ball.
BYU lost to Utah because they were looking ahead to his big game. The Cougars are 15-3 against the spread (ATS) in their last 18 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game, 7-2 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games, and 8-2 ATS in the last ten games overall.
The betting public is hammering the home team, but they are betting on the Boise State of the past, not the Boise State that will be on the field for Thursday night. That will be a big mistake as BYU will be ready for this game.
