Why Jay Cutler Can Lead the Dolphins to an AFC East title

The Miami Dolphins enticed a “retired” quarterback to come back to the league. After ending a tumultuous career with the Chicago Bears, Jay Cutler looked bound for the broadcast booth. That has changed. The Dolphins signed Cutler to a one-year deal worth $10 million with $3 million in incentives. While many will scoff at the signing, this is good news for the Dolphins.

Odds Show Improvement

MyBookie is the #1 sportsbook to bet on the NFL and they have the latest odds on the Miami Dolphins. The odds were taken off the board when quarterback Ryan Tannehill was injured. Now with Cutler signed, the odds are back up and one look at the odds will show how much that they have improved. The Dolphins are projected to get 7.5 wins this season and the odds to win the AFC East are at (+500) just behind the New England Patriots.

Why the Dolphins Can Compete With Jay Cutler

Matt Moore is a suitable backup and Tannehill always had some serious upside, but neither quarterback succeeded. In fact it could be argued that it was the play at quarterback that held this team back. They have an incredible arsenal of pass catching targets to include Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills and Devante Parker. They also have an incredible defense that can get after the best quarterbacks in the league to include Tom Brady.

Why Will Cutler Make a Difference?

Everyone knows that Cutler has played under Adam Gase and that he enjoyed success in his system. Under Gase he had a passer rating better than 90 and he had a 2.3 percent interception rate which was the second best of his career according to Yahoo Sports.  These numbers would make him a viable quarterback in the AFC East.

Win/Win for Dolphins

The expectations are low for Jay Cutler and for the Dolphins for that matter. The money was right for the Dolphins and this gives Jay Cutler one last chance to prove his doubters wrong. Cutler is in a system he is familiar with and will have an easy learning curve to get ready for the regular season.

Can They Beat the Pats?

The short answer is yes. The Patriots have the best team in the NFL and they are defending champions. That means that everyone will be looking to take down the Pats. They will have trouble getting up for every game of the season. Don’t be surprised if for once, Brady even rests at the end of the season. The division is a two team race and the Dolphins have challenged the Pats in the past. As highly unlikely as it seems with Cutler playing QB, the Dolphins can win the AFC East.
