Should the New England Patriots be the Favorites to Win the Super Bowl?

The New England Patriots are the defending Super Bowl champions. Last year they completed the best come back in Super Bowl history by taking down the Atlanta Falcons to win another championship. When the season started the Patriots were once again listed as favorites to win it all. Then the season began.

Slow Start Lowers the Odds

The Patriots started the year with a shocking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Patriots were not only big favorites, but they were at home. The loss showed that the Patriots were not undefeated. This was a stark contrast to the off-season talk that suggested that the Patriots would start the year undefeated. It could worse when the Patriots lost at home for the second time this season at home to the dysfunctional Carolina Panthers. As they entered week five the Patriots had already suffered two losses and were dethroned as the favorites to win the Super bowl.  Now in just five weeks there is another team that is favored to win the championship.

New Super Bowl favorite

According to the NFL odds at William Hill page, the new favorite to win the Super Bowl is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Like, the Patriots, the Steelers have not had an impressive start to the season. However, the difference is that they are winning football games. Led by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wide out Antonio Brown, the Steelers have an offense that can score against any team in the league. There is no denying that the Steelers are a very good football team, but are people overreacting to the slow start by the Patriots? Should they still be the favorite to hoist the Lombardi trophy?

Patriots Built To Win

The Patriots proved that although they have some defensive issues they can straighten things out. A week after getting embarrassed defensively against Cam Newton, the Patriots rebounded. With only a short week to prepare the Patriots defense snuffed out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night football. They held a high-powered offense to a low output and proved that they can still be an elite team in the league. As the year goes on, Bill Belichick will keep adjusting and the Patriots will vastly improve on defense. They also have one of the best leaders in all of football under center.

Betting on Brady

Many football bettors have learned one thing. Never bet against Tom Brady. Just when you think they have quit, Brady leads the Patriots to a victory. After beating the Buccaneers, the Patriots improved their record to 9-1 on Thursday night and an amazing 21-3 against the spread after a straight up loss. The Patriots are allowing too many sacks for Brady’s liking. He is 40 years old and has already been sacked more times this year than he was all last season combined. Brady has adjusted his offensive attack and has shortened the field. When he has a full complement of weapons he is impossible to stop. The Patriots may not be the favorites to win the Super Bowl, but you never want to bet against the Patriots.
