The Dallas Cowboys will be part of the NFL Lock of the week for the second time in as many weeks. Last week here at Bookie Blitz the NFL Lock of the Week was on the Dallas Cowboys (+3.5) over the Baltimore Ravens. Although that pick was a winner, the NFL Lock of the week for Week 7 is to go against the Dallas Cowboys and take the Carolina Panthers (+1) to win this game on the field.
The Cowboys should have won the game a week ago, but they proved the little things were just too daunting. Wide receiver Dez Bryant dropped what would have been a game-tying two-point conversion, Tony Romo mismanaged the two minute hurry-up and the special teams missed a game-winning field goal. Whether you blame the quarterback, coaching, or special teams, the Cowboys have major problems.
Dallas Cowboys vs Carolina Panthers Odds:Despite the problems on the Cowboys side line they are still listed as one-point favorites over the Panthers. It certainly has not stopped the public from backing Dallas as they are a popular bet with this popular consensus site reporting that 79% of the bets are on the Cowboys. The Panthers have had their share of problems especially on offense where they rank near the bottom of most offensive categories. The bye week gave the Panthers to organize and plan on ways to improve their offense. Quarterback Cam newton took the bye week to reflect.
“God gives only a few people opportunities like this and it’s easy for people to take it for granted,” Newton said Wednesday. “It gave me time to reflect and appreciate this lovely, wonderful game that I play.”
The Panthers also used the time to make adjustments on the offensive line. Rivera confirmed last week Geoff Hangartner is moving from right guard to center. Byron Bell said Wednesday he’s moving from right tackle to right guard and will start alongside Garry Williams at right tackle. This is not a major move as these players are experienced in different positions on the line.
The Panthers finally have a healthy backfield with the trio of DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert. The Cowboys are dealing with injuries and will be without their leading rusher DeMarco Murray.
The biggest mismatch of the day will be underrated Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson against struggling right tackle Doug Free. The Cowboys will be forced to bring double-teams on Johnson which will open up pressure from other avenues.
The Cowboys are a nightmare for backers at the betting window. The Cowboys are 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 games against the NFC, 1-7 ATS in the last 8 games against teams with a losing record and 3-9 ATS in the last 12 games overall.
The last six teams to come off a bye week are 5-1 against the number and that bodes well for the panthers in Week 7 as they defeat the Cowboys.
