The Green Bay Packers are riding a high after Aaron Rodgers connected on six touchdown passes to give the Houston Texans their first loss of the season. That big win on national television is bringing plenty of looks by the betting public. In fact, Sports Insights is reporting that the Green Bay Packers are the most popular bet of the week getting 87% of the public action.
Although the public is on the Packers, the wise guys are on the Rams which is the line opened at 5.5 and now can be found at 5 at many offshore sportsbooks.
The Rams are playing at home and will have a loud and rowdy crowd ready to back them up. The Rams also have a defense that is playing better than they are getting credit for. The Rams are ranked No. 7 in the NFL in yards allowed and fifth overall in the league in points per game allowing just 18.5 per contest. That is better than the Packers in both categories.
The Packers also have injury concerns starting with Rodgers who hurt himself late in the Texans game. He is going to play in this game but is something worth watching as he made the injury report.

The injuries don’t stop there for the Packers. According to the Packers blog Coach Mike McCarthy indicated Wednesday that rookie outside linebacker Nick Perry (knee) and cornerback Sam Shields (shin/ankle) would be hard-pressed to play Sunday at St. Louis. Nose tackle B.J. Raji (ankle) remains out, saying that he did hope to practice this week but must be smart about it.
The Packers are also in the tough position of playing their third straight road game which is a tough feat for any team in the NFL.
The Rams offense is overlooked. They don’t put up gaudy numbers but did amass nearly 500 yards of offense against the Dolphins a week ago. That included 162 rushing yards as the Rams are starting to find a working offense with a running back by committee approach.
The Rams’ Steven Jackson is averaging 53.8 yards rushing without a TD this season, but he could be poised for a breakout game against a Green Bay team allowing 110.2 yards on the ground. Jackson has averaged 113.5 yards with a score in four games against the Packers.
If it is a close game the Rams can count on kicker Greg Zuerlein. The rookie may have missed several field goals a week ago, but he is still one of the best young kickers in the league and will be just fine kicking in a dome this weekend.
The Packers struggle on the road and after big wins according to the recent NFL trends. The Packers are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a win of more than 14 points, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games, and 0-4 ATS in the last four games after a win.
The Rams are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Jeff Fisher has the Rams believing they can play with the best teams in the league by running the ball and playing great defense. That confidence will translate into a big upset over the Packers this weekend.
