repost bttn suprsd NFL Week 7 Picks: Why the Giants Will Dominate RG3 and the Redskins

Robert Griffin III is one of the most hyped athletes in the NFL this year. His ability to win games by running and throwing the ball is already making highlight films every week, but the Redskins will not make my short list of NFL Week 7 Picks when they play the New York Giants.

Both teams are off big wins as the Redskins beat the Vikings and the Giants trounced the San Francisco 49ers. Both wins are very impressive, but the Giants will carry the momentum into this game.

Redskins vs Giants Odds: The latest NFL betting lines have the Giants listed as (-6) point favorites and the total set at 51. The line is reasonable but it depends on what Giant team shows up for this game. For the most up-to-date NFL Odds check out BetOnline Sportsbook, the top rated place to bet on football. Will it be the team that hammered the 49ers or will it be the team that was swept a year ago by the Redskins without Robert Griffin?

Redskins vs Giants Picks: Giants Win Big

If the Giants hope to stop the Redskins they have to stop the run and put the pressure on RG3.

It starts with RGIII, who is as dangerous with his legs (379 yards, 6 TDs) as his arm (1,343 yards, 5 TDs). Then there’s his rookie backfield mate, Alfred Morris, who has 538 yards on 116 carries (4.6 YPC). It also should be noted that Redskins coach Mike Shanahan seems to have the Giants number, winning twice last year with a team that is not as good as the one on the field this year.

The Giants have a front line that will be ready to go and have been talking smack all week. (More on that later).

The real mismatch is the Giants offense. This offense is clicking on all cylinders and just embarrassed one of the best defenses in the NFL. The running game is solid and don’t be worried about Ahmad Bradshaw missing practice. The Giants blog, captured the state of mind of the running game perfectly.

“I feel good, man,” Bradshaw said Thursday after practice. “No setbacks, and I’m ready to go.”

When asked if he expected Bradshaw to be able to carry a full load on Sunday, Giants coach Tom Coughlin said, “I do.”

The Giants’ running game came alive in the last two weeks, gaining 392 yards on the ground, 34 more than they gained in the first four weeks of the season.

The other advantage is the passing game.

Eli Manning is nearly perfect against the blitz, so sending an extra rusher in his face only makes his job easier. Oh, and he’s been sacked four times. All season.

The Redskins defense does not have enough talent up front to put pressure on Manning without sending extra people and if they do that, Manning will eat up the coverage.

Look at these ugly numbers.

The Redskins’ pass defense has struggled, allowing the most yards through the air (2,046), the most passing first downs (97) and tying for the most touchdowns allowed (15). They have been particularly bad on throws more than 10 yards downfield, allowing a 98.8 Total QBR (second-worst in the league) and 13.1 yards per attempt (second-most in the league). The Redskins are also the only team in the NFL to have allowed more than 1,000 passing yards on such throws through the first six weeks.

The real advantage is the special teams. The Redskins just cut the kicker and now, according to NBC Washington, they have punting problems. The Redskins will focus their attention on finding another punter in the event that starter Sav Rocca can’t play. Rocca’s been slowed by an injury to the knee of his kicking leg (right). The Washington Post reported that former Eagles punter Chas Henry would work out for the Skins Friday.

Now on to the smack talk as the Giants defense is ready for RG3. Two the Redskins biggest players on defense have all of their attention focused on RG3.

New York Giants’ Osi Umenyiora, Jason Pierre-Paul, both spent the week commenting on the athletic rookie quarterback.

Giants’ defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has some advice for Griffin III: “Don’t bring it to my side. Go the other way.” That can be construed as Griffin III better consider running away from Pierre-Paul’s side of the field, or else the Redskins’ offense will experience abject failure.

That was just the start of the smack talk.

The bottom line is the Giants have the edge in this game and they need this win. Earlier losses to the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles hurt the Giants when it comes to tie breakers. A loss against the Redskins would be unacceptable.

Eli Manning will have a huge day against the beatable Redskins secondary and the Giants register another big win with a double-digit victory over Robert Griffin III and the Redskins.
