After losing seasons San Jose State went 10-2 this year to finish in second place in the Western Athletic Conference and clinch the program’s first postseason game since 2006. The turnaround was so impressive head coach Mike MacIntyre moved on and accepted the coaching job at Colorado.

Travel could be an issue for the Spartans as the game will be played in RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. They traveled across country earlier in the season and were successful but Bowling Green will provide a set of different challenges.

The first challenge for the Spartans will be protecting quarterback David Fales. His biggest threat is MAC defensive player of the year Chris Jones, a tackle who is tied for third in the nation with 121/2 sacks, leads a BGSU defense that is seventh in the nation in total defense. Overall the Falcons defense is formidable as they are seventh in the nation in total defense allowing just 15.8 points per game.

On offense, the Falcons have averaged 28.5 points the last eight games, led by quarterback Matt Schilz and running back Anthon Samuel. This offense will thrive from the defense that will bottle up the Spartans offense and create great field position.

The Falcons are 5-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last six games following a win and 7-1 ATS in their last eight games overall.

The Spartans will struggle with travel and the change at the helm and are on upset alert against the Falcons in the military bowl.
