TCU enters this game will some extra time to prepare but it is not as much as head coach Gary Patterson would have hoped.

“We only get an extra three days,” said Patterson, who didn’t know if the break comes at a good time. “I don’t know. I’ll tell you when we get done playing Texas.”(via star-telegram.com)

The cause for concern for the coach is due to the injuries to his team. Freshman quarterback Trevone Boykin missed some of the Kansas State game with a shoulder injury. Boykin finished by putting some late points on the board, but he still has plenty to learn.

Patterson said Boykin, who completed 17 of 30 passes for a season-low 164 yards, “missed reads, missed throws.”

“We have to play better at the quarterback position,” he said. “He did not play very well at all. You’ve got to throw the ball where the coverage tells you to throw it. He did not do that yesterday. They gave us a lot of things where we could have been in a lot better situation than what we were in. Neither quarterback played very well.”

The only time that TCU moved the ball is when the game was well in hand, but with 16 true freshmen playing this season, it’s a learning curve. TCU does play well on the road, but it will be tough to beat the Longhorns who come into this game riding momentum.

Quarterback David Ash led the way in the victory over Iowa State. Ash finished with 25 completions in 31 attempts for 364 yards and two touchdowns. The Longhorns enter this game riding a four game winning streak with an improving defense that has recovered after allowing 50 points to Baylor at the end of October.

The Longhorns only concern is looking past this game for the end of season matchup against Kansas State. A win over top-ranked Kansas State would impress the bowl committee and give the Long horns an edge in nabbing a nice bowl bid, but they have to beat TCU first.

The Horned Frogs are 2-5 against the spread (ATS) in their last seven Thursday games and 2-6 ATS in the last eight games overall in conference.

The Longhorns will start slow in this game against a TCU that thrives on the road, but will wake up just before halftime. The injuries and lack of experience and depth will catch up with TCU as the Longhorns win on Thanksgiving.
