The New York Giants vs Atlanta Falcons is one of the marquee games on the schedule in Week 15. Both the Giants and the Falcons will both be going to the playoffs and this could provide a sneak peek of a potential playoff meeting.
The Falcons remember the last time these two teams met on the field and they will keep it in the back of their mind as they suit up to play the Giants this Sunday. The Falcons have revenge in mind for this game after they were drubbed 24-2 last year in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
Quarterback Matt Ryan is talking down the revenge aspect but it has to still resonate with this team.
“It’s one of the motivations that pushes you when you fall short in the playoffs, but we’re a different football team than we were last year and they’re a different football team than they were in the playoffs last year. I think it’s important because of what’s in front of us. We have an opportunity to do what we want to do in the regular season and it starts Sunday.”
The Falcons were dominated in every facet of the game and the Falcons have since become a team that cannot win in the post season. If they want to shake that reputation they have to win in the playoffs and win big games like the one they have in Week 15.
New York Giants vs Atlanta Falcons Odds: The Falcons opened the game as two point favorites, but that number has started dropping as the NFL consensus reports show that heavy public betting action is on the Giants.
The Giants come in with injury issues as running back Ahmad Bradshaw will most likely miss this game. That puts the onus on rookie running back David Wilson to get the job done. Wilson looked great last week, but the Saints defense is porous and not near as stout as the Falcons.
Wilson also struggles in pass protection which will make quarterback Eli Manning vulnerable to the pass rush. Wilson will likely be replaced on third down packages but the Falcons defense will test out the replacements by sending different blitzes early and often.
The Falcons secondary may seem vulnerable to the pass, but Atlanta cornerback Asante Samuel knows how to read Manning as he has amassed three interceptions in eight games against Manning.
Ryan will look to take advantage of a Giants secondary that is susceptible to the big play. Rookie Jayron Hosley will replace injured Prince Amukamara if he is unable to suit up. This is a huge mismatch and Ryan will exploit Hosley and the rest of the Giants defense with big plays as he shares the ball with many of his elite weapons.
The Giants are 1-4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 6 games following a win against the number and should fall flat in this game. The Falcons are 21-7 ATS in their last 28 games following a loss and 23-9-2 ATS in their last 34 games following a loss against the spread.
The Falcons exact revenge for the playoff loss and win big in front of their home crowd.
