When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs New Orleans Saints get underway this weekend in the Big Easy it could be a very big win for either team.
The New Orleans Saints season is over all intended purposes, and the main focus is still on bounty gate. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the other hand still have plenty to play for. The Buccaneers are slumping as they enter this game losing two straight games but are still viable contenders for the NFC playoffs. A Week 15 game against the distracted and defenseless Saints may be just what they need.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs New Orleans Saints Odds: The home team Saints opened up as three point favorites and surprisingly have been bet up over the key number and currently can be found at (-3.5) at several offshore sportsbooks. That number seems high for a team that is out of the playoffs and dealing with off-the-field issues.
This week quarterback Drew Brees fielded questions about Bounty Gate and the NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell.
“What I would like to see is a level of accountability on the part of the NFL and Commissioner Goodell in regards to mishandling of this entire situation,” Brees said after practice Wednesday.
This is the kind of distraction that will take a team away from game planning and considering they don’t have anything to play for the Saints should put forth an uninspired effort.
The Buccaneers are in a must win situation if they want to make the post season. In the first meeting Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman torched the Saints secondary. Freeman posted 420 yards and three touchdowns against a Saints defense that has allowed more passing scores than any other team in the league.
The Bucs however have a weak secondary and Brees will get his share of points. This game could come down to the fourth quarter and that is where the Buccaneers have the advantage. For the season, the Saints have been outscored, 98-62, in the fourth quarter and overtime. Over the past six games, they’ve been outscored 43-6. In short, the Saints can’t finish games.
The Buccaneers are 5-1-1 against the spread (ATS) in the last seven games overall and they are 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 road games.
The Buccaneers are 7-2 ATS in their last nine meetings in New Orleans and the Bucs win a close game to get back into the playoff race.
The Saints look forward to next season and the Buccaneers look forward to the playoffs.
