The Cleveland Browns Will Absolutely Cover

The Browns are a tough team to decipher this year and have an interesting matchup with the much improved Cincinnati Bengals. Cleveland parted ways with Odell Beckham Jr. this week and that will take a distraction out of the Cleveland clubhouse.

This is a big game for the Browns. They currently reside in the basement of the AFC North, but they are only one game out of first place. The Bengals were exposed a week ago against the Jets, especially on defense. Cincinnati has problems tackling and that will be emphasized against Nick Chubb and a strong running game. The Browns have covered four of the last five games as a road underdog and they beat the Bengals on Sunday.

It has been a tough week for the Las Vegas Raiders. Hell, it’s been a tough year. They lost their coach under some pretty difficult circumstances. Now they have lost another player due to tragic circumstances. Although the Raiders had a bye week, anyone would have a difficult time focusing on a game after everything they have been through. Now they have to travel east to take on a Giants team that is underrated. To make matters worse, the Raiders are just 2-6-1 ATS in the last nine games as a road favorite.

The Giants play a very solid defensive game and if they can execute on offense they can beat any team in team in the league. This will be a close game and the home team and the points are the only way to go.

The 3-4 Minnesota Vikings have shown flashes of dominance this season but have also really struggled to score. Last week, they struggled to score. They lost 20-16 to a Dallas Cowboys team without Dak Prescott. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for only 184 yards and one touchdown. The Viking’s defense gave up a lot of yards but also had three sacks and one interception.

It is tough to read the 5-2 Baltimore Ravens. They have an excellent record but are coming off a devastating 41-17 loss two weeks ago to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Raven’s offense mightily struggled scoring touchdowns and ended up punting six times. Quarterback Lamar Jackson only completed 15 of 31 passes and only threw one touchdown. However, the Ravens defense was the real story in this game. They allowed Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to throw for 416 yards and three touchdowns. They also allowed running backs Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine to each rush for one touchdown and a combined 111 yards.

Viking vs. Ravens Predictions

This game could go either way, but I am going to give the Ravens the upper hand. They are playing at home, and I expect Lamar Jackson to bounce back after his last game and use his rest from his bye week. The Vikings are also just far too inconsistent to count on to beat a team like the Ravens. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has shown moments of solid play but a lot more moments where he cannot handle the pressure.

This game will not be a blowout. The Vikings will keep it close, and there will be a fair bit of punting. But, Lamar Jackson will step up when it matters most and win the game for his team.

My Prediction: Ravens 24, Vikings 17, Ravens Cover, Under 50 Points

The Buffalo Bills have proven themselves as one of the best teams in the league. They are 5-2 after coming off a 26-11 win against the Miami Dolphins. Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two touchdowns in that game. Cole Beasley also had ten receptions for 110 yards. However, the Bills defense was the real story of the game. They limited the struggling Dolphins’ offense to only 11 points. Safety Jordan Poyer could not be stopped with his nine tackles and one interception.

On the other side, the Jacksonville Jaguars cannot do much right. They are 1-6 after their embarrassing 31-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Jaguars’ rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence struggled a lot, throwing 32 receptions on 54 pass attempts. He managed to throw one touchdown, but he also threw one interception.  The Jaguars running back duo of Carlos Hyde and James Robinson also could not get much going. They ended with a combined 54 rushing yards.

Bills vs. Jaguars Predictions

Let’s be honest. This is not the Jaguars year. First-year head coach Urban Meyer has struggled to adjust to the NFL game and has already dealt with scandal in his young NFL career. Rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence has also struggled to adjust to the NFL. He has a high ceiling, but it will take some time for him to hit it.

The Bills are in a completely different position than the Jaguars. They have all the pieces they need and are trying to make a championship run right now. The Jaguars do not stand a chance against this Bills team. The Jaguars are just too outmatched. They are going to be crushed by the Bills, and the Bills will cover the 14.5-point spread.

My Prediction: Bills 35, Jaguars 14, Bills Cover, Over 48.5 Points

Navy vs Notre Dame

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish is a top-ranked football team in the country. That is not enough to get a ticket to the playoffs. They will need victories and some big ones to make the committee take notice. Irish coach Brian Kelly is 8-2 straight up in the last ten games in this rivalry, but the Navy has a way of keeping it close. This week will be a different story as the Irish are 5-1 against the spread (ATS) in the last six games overall and will be able to beat up this defense. This is a bundle of points to give up, but the Irish cover.

Michigan State vs Purdue

The Spartans are off the biggest upset of the year and have yet to lose a game. If the college football playoffs were to start today, Michigan State will get an invite. Then why are they only three-point favorites on the road this week? Because this is a serious let down spot and Purdue is a profitable underdog. Purdue is 19-7 ATS as an underdog and 8-3 ATS as a home dog.

Kentucky is having a tough time winning football games and the Wildcats head coach has made it clear that he is not happy. After the loss to Mississippi State the coach summed up the loss in three words, “Played like crap,” he said. The team will not have much time to recover if they hope to beat the Volunteers. It won’t be easy against a Volunteers team that is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings. This is not new for the Wildcats who tend to falter late in the season. Kentucky is 9-21-1 ATS in the month of November and that record will get worse when they lose against Tennessee this week.

Texas vs Iowa State

The Texas Longhorns have once again failed to meet expectations. They have a talented offensive lead by QB Casey Thompson, but cannot stop anyone on defense. Iowa State is not faring much better after a loss that knocked the Cyclones out of the Top 25. However, they are at home and they have the better defense. Iowa State is 19-7 ATS after a loss and they will trounce a Longhorn team that has given up on the season.

LSU vs Alabama

This is usually the biggest game of the year in the SEC, but not this year. The LSU Tigers are having a very difficult season and have already agreed to part ways with head coach Ed Orgeron. Meanwhile, although Alabama has a loss they are still very much alive in the college football playoff picture. This is still a very big game for both teams, but perhaps more important for the Tigers.

LSU needs a win against a powerhouse team so they can recruit next season. This is also the last true big game for a coach that is beloved by the players. The Tigers are 11-3 ATS after a loss against the spread and the road team is 5-0 ATS in this series.

LSU will go all out in this game and they may not pull off the upset, but they will keep it close.

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a rough start to the season. They are 5-4 after their 107-104 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder are going through a rebuild, and their two wins have both come against the Lakers. The Lakers played without LeBron James last night but still had three players score over 20 points. The problem was that those three players (Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, and Carmelo Anthony) scored 77 combined points and accounted for a whopping 74% of their team points. On the other side, the Portland Trail Blazers are 3-5 after their 107-104 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Damian Lillard led all Blazers in scoring with 26 points. However, CJ McCollum might have had a more impressive game than Lillard. McCollum had 21 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Lakers vs. Trail Blazers Predictions

The Trail Blazers are very healthy right now, and the Lakers are dealing with a rash of injuries. The most notable injured player is LeBron James. The Trail Blazers will have a much easier matchup without facing LeBron James. This Lakers team has not proven that they can win without their superstar yet. That has been most evident with their two losses against the Thunder.

The Trail Blazers will still have a tough matchup even though the Lakers do not have Lebron James tonight. They will have to push the pace against this veteran Lakers squad and use their age as an advantage. Damian Lillard is a great playmaker and has shown that he can pass the ball well. He will need to continue doing that tonight to overwhelm the Lakers defense. The Trail Blazers have a chance tonight to regain some momentum after their tough toss to the Cavaliers. I expect them to take full advantage of that.

My Prediction: Trail Blazers 108, Lakers 103.

The 4-5 Atlanta Hawks will have a tough matchup on the road tonight against the Phoenix Suns. The Hawks are coming off a 116-98 loss against the Utah Jazz that saw their record drop below .500. Point guard Trae Young was impressive in the loss with 21 points and seven assists. On the other side, the 4-3 Phoenix Suns are gaining some momentum and have won three games in a row. They are coming off a 123-111 win against the rebuilding Houston Rockets.  Guard Devin Booker led the Suns in scoring with 27 points and also had nine rebounds. It is worth noting that guard Landry Shamet had a productive game off the bench too. He scored 19 points in 19 minutes.

Hawks vs. Suns Predictions

The Atlanta Hawks still have a talented team, but they have struggled to string some wins together this season against some of the NBA’s best. Even though they have been losing, they have maintained almost all of their roster from last year and should not be concerned about their skill level. The Phoenix Suns, on the other hand, are feeling pretty good. They have momentum from winning three games in a row and will be playing at home tonight. Those last three wins have not been against great teams, but it still feels nice to pull out a few wins in a row.

I believe the Hawks are a better team, but they will be outplayed tonight by the surging Suns. Devin Booker has continued his scoring dominance into this season, averaging 22.6 points per game, and point guard Chris Paul has been passing the ball as effectively as ever. He is averaging 12 assists a game and just passed Steve Nash for the third-most assists ever. This will be a close game, but the Suns will pull it out and push their winning streak to four.

Things to Consider

Technically OBJ is not a free agent. He has to clear waivers and of course, finances always play a role in acquiring any new player. Then you have to consider where OBJ wants to play. He will want to play with a contender and he will want to get the ball. This is not an easy combination to find.

Watching the Waivers

According to the ESPN article, the Browns converted his base salary into a signing bonus to lower the financial hit. But the waivers are the important part. This will take some time and he cannot be claimed on waivers until next week. The waivers are in reverse order so the Detroit Lions will have first dibs on his services.

Teams To Track

Figuring out where a star player will play next is never easy. Just look at Cam Newton. The Saints and the Raiders are the prohibitive favorites according to the sports betting odds that we have seen. But they are very low on the waiver wire and rivals like the Falcons, Chiefs and the Broncos will have a chance to claim Beckham first. The same can be said for teams like the Rams, Ravens, Bills, and the Buccaneers.

The first real team on the list that has a real shot of claiming OBJ is the San Francisco 49ers. They don’t have the cap room, but if interested they may be able to make it work. The Philadelphia Eagles need a wide receiver and they have the cap space, but will OBJ want to play with a team that is clearly not a contender? The short answer is no, OBJ will need the rest of this year to perform to get a contract. This means he wants to play with a good QB and he wants to play with a contender.

The Best Fit For OBJ

New England Patriots +650

Many believe that the New England Patriots are a good fit, but they are not. The Patriots already spent a boatload of money on new targets and everything is working right now. They are a playoff fringe team that likes to run first. This is not a place where OBJ will shine.

Seattle Seahawks +2500

The Seahawks are ninth in waiver priority and they have the cap space. Although the Seahawks have a dynamic duo at wide receiver with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, OBJ will be a perfect fit. OBJ will take attention off the current pass-catching crew. Russell Wilson is healthy and will return under center. The Seahawks need to win every game if they want to make a playoff run.

Buffalo Bills +500

OBJ will have to clear waivers to get to Buffalo, but this is another nice fit. He will fit in well in this offense alongside Diggs and Sanders and will play with one of the best QBs in the league. This is a team that has Super Bowl aspirations and the community will welcome OBJ with open arms.

Friday Night Lights

The Pac-12 gets all the love on Friday night when the Utah Utes head to Stanford to go up against the Cardinal. This is too many points for a Utah team that is 2-5 ATS in the last 7 games as a favorite. Stanford can win this game, so the points are a plus.
