It only took one quarter for the Miami Heat to take Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics. The Celtics were dominated in the third quarter and were outscored by 25 points. Boston had to battle fatigue and the loss of starters Al Horford and Marcus Smart. But this is the playoffs and there are no excuses regarding the Celtics vs Heat Game 2 prediction.

The Celtics were big favorites (-175) to win the series before Game 1. But after a bad loss and injury reports surfaced, the Celtics are now underdogs to win the series (+120). As I mentioned in the series preview, now might be a good time to bet the Celtics to win the series. The odds for Game 2 have the Heat listed as (-4) favorites which are two points greater than the first game. The over/under for this game is set at 208.

Watching the line

The Game 2 line is going to move. Although early reports suggest that Smart and Horford will be out again, the Celtics have upgraded Smart to probable. Miami is getting all of the love after the big win, but if the Celtics know they will be without two starters they will be more prepared for Game 2. Jayson Tatum will most likely share point guard duties with either Jaylen Brown or White to let Tatum worry more about scoring. If Boston gets both starters back, then it will be business as usual for Boston.

Khris Middleton Watch

Up to this point, the Bucks have been without the services of Khris Middleton. Middleton is an important cog on this team, especially on offense as he often helps Giannis Antetokounmpo carry the load. Although Jrue Holiday has chipped in, the Bucks are undeniably better when Middleton plays. There were Middelton rumors that he may have suited up for Game 6, and with a Game 7 looming you can expect those rumors to swirl again.

 

His status will be in question leading up to game time, but if he is available, the Bucks will get him on the floor even on a limited basis.

The Celtics looked like they were going to take this series over. I have a bet on the Celtics to win the series, with a small hedge on the Bucks, but it’s starting to look like the Celtics are in big trouble.  The Game 4 loss is unforgivable and put a spotlight on the Celtic’s struggle in the clutch. The Celtics posted the 2nd-lowest win percentage in games that featured clutch play during the regular season as they finished with a 13-22 record in clutch games.

The Bucks are -1.5 at home for Game 6 which suggests a close game, which is bad news for the Celtics. Jalen Brown and Jayson Tatum looked good in the last game, but the Celtics are getting beat to rebounds and to loose balls.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is unstoppable. He is the best player on the planet and he is carrying the Bucks in this series. Jrue Holiday is emerging as a good wingman for Giannis. After averaging 19.1 points on 37.1 percent shooting in the playoffs, he played like a superstar and clamped down Marcus Smart to seal the victory. If Holiday has another big game, the Celtics don’t have a chance. And it may even get worse for Boston with the latest news surrounding the status of Khris Middleton.

Chris Paul will not foul out again

Suns superstar Chris Paul fouled out of Game 4 and had some seriously bad fouls called against him. That is not going to happen in Phoenix.
