The Celtics have been incredible after a loss in the playoffs. They are undefeated after a loss and they win those games by an average of 17 points. However, it is interesting that Boston is just 1-3-1 against the spread (ATS) after a straight-up win in the playoffs. That is something to consider when you look at the opening point spread in this game.

The Celtics are 6-point favorites in Game 3 which is higher than they were against the Milwaukee Bucks’ The sportsbooks have set the over/under for the game at 207, which is considerably lower than it has been in the past.

After losing Game 1 without key starters, the Celtics had all of their pieces back in place. Marcus Smart and Al Horford were back in the lineup and the Celtic’s physicality dominated the smaller Heat. Betting on the total is not as sexy as betting on the side in an NBA playoff game. I believe the Celtics will win Game 3, but the six points is a bit rich for my blood.  I would bet Boston (-270) if anything, but I believe there is more value on the total.

The Celtics will not be able to match their output from beyond the arc in Game 2. Boston shot 9-for-11 in the first quarter and that will cause Miami to adjust the defense to close out quicker on shooters. If Dallas is going to make this a series the rest of the Mavericks cast of characters will have to help out Doncic. During Game 1, they missed 3’s and had serious lapses on offense where they stood around and watched Luka struggle against double and sometimes triple coverage. As a team, the Mavericks were just 11-48 from beyond the arc for a miserable 23 percent rate. Spencer Dinwiddie put up an ugly -21 in his playing time. Although he scored 17 points, the Warriors outscored the Mavericks by 21 points when he was on the floor. Everyt5hing has to change for the Mavericks.

The Warriors had the perfect first game. Stephen Curry put on the usual sharp-shooting show, Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney played at their best and nearly every player chipped in. That’s not going to happen in game two. The Mavericks will make outside shots and the Warriors will have to open up the defense. This will allow Luka to run free for open shots.

It only took one quarter for the Miami Heat to take Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics. The Celtics were dominated in the third quarter and were outscored by 25 points. Boston had to battle fatigue and the loss of starters Al Horford and Marcus Smart. But this is the playoffs and there are no excuses regarding the Celtics vs Heat Game 2 prediction.

The Celtics were big favorites (-175) to win the series before Game 1. But after a bad loss and injury reports surfaced, the Celtics are now underdogs to win the series (+120). As I mentioned in the series preview, now might be a good time to bet the Celtics to win the series. Watching the line

The Game 2 line is going to move. Although early reports suggest that Smart and Horford will be out again, the Celtics have upgraded Smart to probable. Miami is getting all of the love after the big win, but if the Celtics know they will be without two starters they will be more prepared for Game 2. Jayson Tatum will most likely share point guard duties with either Jaylen Brown or White to let Tatum worry more about scoring. If Boston gets both starters back, then it will be business as usual for Boston.

Khris Middleton Watch

Up to this point, the Bucks have been without the services of Khris Middleton. Middleton is an important cog on this team, especially on offense as he often helps Giannis Antetokounmpo carry the load. Although Jrue Holiday has chipped in, the Bucks are undeniably better when Middleton plays. There were Middelton rumors that he may have suited up for Game 6, and with a Game 7 looming you can expect those rumors to swirl again.

 

His status will be in question leading up to game time, but if he is available, the Bucks will get him on the floor even on a limited basis.

Full Disclosure

The Celtics looked like they were going to take this series over. I have a bet on the Celtics to win the series, with a small hedge on the Bucks, but it’s starting to look like the Celtics are in big trouble.  The Game 4 loss is unforgivable and put a spotlight on the Celtic’s struggle in the clutch. The Celtics posted the 2nd-lowest win percentage in games that featured clutch play during the regular season as they finished with a 13-22 record in clutch games.

The Bucks are -1.5 at home for Game 6 which suggests a close game, which is bad news for the Celtics. Jalen Brown and Jayson Tatum looked good in the last game, but the Celtics are getting beat to rebounds and to loose balls.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is unstoppable. He is the best player on the planet and he is carrying the Bucks in this series. Jrue Holiday is emerging as a good wingman for Giannis. After averaging 19.1 points on 37.1 percent shooting in the playoffs, he played like a superstar and clamped down Marcus Smart to seal the victory. If Holiday has another big game, the Celtics don’t have a chance. And it may even get worse for Boston with the latest news surrounding the status of Khris Middleton.
